Our new mentor/mentee program is called +Detroit and seeks to pair elementary age students from NW Detroit with teenage mentors from around the Metro Detroit area. The program is run by the high school mentors. A group of students from around the Metro Detroit area are currently helping shape the program. High school aged mentors are set to meet with their mentees one Saturday a month from 10am-1pm, with 9am-10am being set up time for the day's activities. Each session will have a theme (such as music) and corresponding enrichment activities, as well as focus on improving students literacy skills. The two-fold purpose of the program is to have teens (13-18) work together to develop programming for the kids 5-10 years old in areas of literacy, healthy lifestyle, bullying, music, dance, athletics, and team building.
