Mosaic Project at the Northwest Activities Center

Project Healthy Community was contacted by the Jewish Community Relations Council to participate in a mosaic installation project with the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council (MJAC) during their visit to Detroit. PHC suggested the Northwest Activities Center (NWAC) as the site for the mosaic and worked with NWAC to recruit youth from around the Metro Detroit area to design and create the piece. The project was spearheaded by Gail Rosenbloom Kaplan and Dani Katsir who created the final design based on sketches and ideas of the youth. The design also features the logos of NWAC and MJAC as well as a nod to our own PHC logo around the edge.

The piece was installed on October 3rd, 2017, with a large crowd of representatives from MJAC, the JCRC, NWAC, PHC, and the youth who had worked on the project. The theme of the piece is multiculturalism and unity. Come visit the Northwest Activities Center at 181000 Meyers Rd to see the piece in the lobby stairwell.
